I am aruna antonella Handa

A powerhouse voice, a commanding presence, and a poet’s respect for the lyric, Aruna Antonella Handa digs deep and delivers. If Betty Carter sings like a trumpet and Ella like a saxophone, Aruna Antonella sings like a cello, deep, resonant and earthy. Odetta, Holiday, Joplin, Joni and Aretha: it’s all there in a voice you’ll not soon forget. Her original compositions emerge from folk, early jazz, rock and chanson, sprinkled with quotes and tributes to the pantheon of the vocalists and composers she admires. Handa’s compositions are built around the centrality of the voice. A cappella or accompanied by other instruments, the texture of the human voice is fundamental to her sound. She’s played in a variety of ensembles and contexts from chapel choirs, to opera chorus, from voice and stand-up bass to celtic bands, to voice & piano, and voice & percussion. For more on her work in food, please see alimentaryinitiatives.com. Handa is at work on a number of recording projects of her original work including two song cycles Addicts, and Bones. The first album is slated for release in 2018. Together with Artists of the Aurora, she is also preparing to record her composition "Have You Seen My Sister?".
